morocco tooled in gold. Front cover: 30 marquise cut garnets, 32 green
tourmalines, 22 turquoise, 98 rubies. Back cover: 4 marquise cut garnets,
4 sapphires, 1 rose-cut tourmaline. Doublures and fly-leaves: green
morocco tooled in gold and mother of pearl inlays, red and light blue
leather inlays, pink leather inlays, with excerpt from author's
"Christmas". Back of fly leaves and face of blank leaf opposite in green
satin. All edges gilt and gauffered in a floral pattern: light blue, red
and purple leaves. Back strip elaborately gilt and inlaid with green
leather. Francis Sangorski and George Sutcliffe studied at the London
Central School for Arts and Crafts under Douglass Cockerell. They started a
bindery in 1901 and became the leading craftsmen binders in England. The
Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. was first published in seven parts in
1819-1820, New York. Purchased in 1937.
